Ole Miss Lands Antonio Berry as Pete Golding’s Historic Recruiting Run Continues

Ole Miss added another major piece to its 2027 recruiting class Wednesday, securing a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Antonio Berry and further cementing what is becoming one of the most impressive in-state recruiting hauls in program history.

On the latest episode of Talk of Champions, Ben Garrett and Zach Berry broke down Berry’s commitment, what it means for Pete Golding’s recruiting efforts, and why Ole Miss could be on the verge of signing an unprecedented collection of Mississippi talent.

Antonio Berry gives Ole Miss another massive recruiting win

Berry, the No. 1-ranked prospect in Mississippi according to Rivals, became the latest blue-chip commitment for the Rebels after announcing his decision Wednesday afternoon.

The commitment came just one day after defensive lineman Mitchell Turner committed to Ole Miss, giving the Rebels back-to-back commitments from two of the state’s top prospects.

Zach Berry explained that while programs like Kentucky made strong pushes late in the process, Ole Miss consistently positioned itself as the favorite thanks to its relationships with Antonio Berry and the vision laid out by Golding’s staff.

The Rebels now hold commitments from three of Mississippi’s top five prospects and, at the time of recording, were viewed as the favorite to land Caden Moss, which would give Ole Miss four of the state’s top five recruits.

The Ben’ Jarvis Shumaker situation

Garrett and Berry also addressed the unusual recruitment of Ben’ Jarvis Shumaker.

After briefly backing away from his Ole Miss pledge, Shumaker quickly reaffirmed his commitment following conversations with the coaching staff.

Rather than viewing the episode negatively, Berry praised the young offensive lineman for admitting he made a mistake and correcting it, calling it a sign of maturity for a 17-year-old navigating the recruiting process under constant public attention.

A recruiting class with historic potential

The discussion concluded by comparing Ole Miss’ current 2027 class with the legendary 2013 recruiting class that featured stars such as Laremy Tunsil, Laquon Treadwell, Robert Nkemdiche and Evan Engram.

While Garrett and Berry agreed that class remains one of the greatest in school history, they believe the current group has a legitimate opportunity to become one of the deepest and most balanced recruiting classes Ole Miss has ever assembled.
