There is no question about the talent on the Clemson Tigers roster.
The question is why it is not translating into success. On Game Runs Deep, the conversation turned to whether head coach Dabo Swinney is still maximizing what Clemson has, or if the program is starting to plateau.
The talent is there. Across the roster, Clemson has players with NFL potential. On paper, it should be competing at the highest level, but the on-field product has not matched that expectation.
Clemson has looked inconsistent and, at times, underwhelming despite its talent level. The dominance that once defined the program has not been there in the same way.
That leads to a bigger question. Can Swinney still be viewed in the same tier as coaches like Kirby Smart? For years, the answer was obvious. Now, it is not as clear.
Programs evolve. Every coach eventually faces a point where maintaining success becomes more difficult. Whether it is changes in the sport, recruiting dynamics or internal stagnation, sustaining dominance is never guaranteed. This could be that moment for Clemson.
Swinney’s accomplishments, which include two national titles and nine ACC titles, cannot be erased, but it does raise the possibility that a reset, whether through adjustments or something more significant, may be needed.
Because when the talent is there and the results are not, the spotlight shifts to the top, and right now, that spotlight is on Dabo Swinney.
