Auburn pressure mounts on Freeze as expectations clash with potential

The heat is already on Hugh Freeze, and it’s only Week 1.

As discussed in the latest episode of Game Runs Deep , the pressure surrounding Auburn’s head coach is intense from the jump, and it’s not expected to ease up anytime soon.

Once the SEC schedule begins, the margin for error shrinks dramatically, and there’s a very real sense that things could unravel quickly if results don’t follow. That urgency is driven by one simple reality: high expectations at Auburn never go away.

Whether those expectations are justified or not is beside the point, the fanbase believes Auburn should consistently be in the 10 to 11 win, national championship conversation. Seasons that land in the 7 to 8 win range, especially with uneven performances, simply don’t meet the standard.

But there’s another side to this conversation.

Despite the pressure, there’s optimism that this could actually be the most talented team Freeze has had at Auburn so far. Much of that hinges on quarterback Jackson Arnold, a former five-star recruit with undeniable upside. While things didn’t fully click for him at Oklahoma, not all of that falls on his shoulders, and the belief is that his raw talent still projects at an NFL level.

With a strong supporting cast and legitimate weapons on offense, Auburn could be more than just improved, they could be dangerous. If things break the right way, there’s even talk of potential College Football Playoff contention.

One thing is already clear, there’s no easing into anything. The pressure is here, and it’s not going anywhere.
