Alvin Mosley Explains Why Ole Miss “Checked Every Box” in His Recruitment

Ole Miss’ recruiting momentum continued over the holiday weekend with another major addition to its 2027 class.

Just days after announcing his commitment to the Rebels, four-star wide receiver Alvin Mosley joined Talk of Champions to discuss why he chose Ole Miss, the relationships that ultimately won him over and why he believes Oxford is the right place to prepare for the NFL. 

With four-star edge Antwan Jackson also committing just before the interview aired, Ole Miss continues building what is shaping up to be one of the nation’s top recruiting classes. 

Ole Miss “Checked Every Box”

For Mosley, the decision became clearer with every visit to Oxford.

The Texas native considered several high-profile programs, including Texas, Houston and Arkansas, but said Ole Miss ultimately separated itself because of its people, player development and overall vision for his future.

“I chose Ole Miss because it checked every box for me,” Mosley said. “I believe in the coaching staff. I believe in Coach (L’Damian) Washington and the vision they have for my future. I see being around a lot of NFL receivers that can develop me. It felt like home the moment I stepped on campus.”

That feeling only grew stronger during his official visit. While Mosley admitted it was difficult to pinpoint one specific moment that sealed his decision, he repeatedly emphasized how comfortable he felt around the entire coaching staff.

“It was just everybody,” Mosley said. “We were all just having a good time.” 

Relationships Won the Recruitment

One theme continues to emerge with Ole Miss’ 2027 commitments. Relationships.

Mosley echoed what several recent commits have said about the recruiting process under Pete Golding’s staff, that every coach plays an active role instead of leaving the recruitment solely to a position coach.

“It wasn’t just one coach,” Mosley explained, noting the family atmosphere created by the entire staff. 

Those relationships became especially important with wide receivers coach L’Damian Washington. According to Mosley, Washington began recruiting him in January and remained consistently involved throughout the process. Whether it was checking in during basketball season, wishing him luck before games or making trips to see him during spring football, Washington built trust long before the commitment.

“He showed support through the whole process,” Mosley said. “He’s just been a real guy.”

Mosley also shared what it was like sitting down with new Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding. Rather than criticizing competing programs, Golding encouraged Mosley to experience every school for himself before making a decision.

“He told me, ‘Go see everybody else, then you’ll know what you really like,'” Mosley recalled. “When I came back home, I knew Ole Miss was what I liked.” 

Basketball Still Plays a Big Role

Although football is his future, basketball remains a significant part of Mosley’s identity. The standout receiver has played basketball since he was four years old and even participated in a basketball-themed photo shoot during his official visit.

However, he laughed off any speculation that he may play both sports in college.

“The jersey was just for fun,” Mosley said. 

Asked to describe his game on the hardwood, Mosley compared himself to Paul George because of his versatility.

When asked which receivers he studies, Mosley pointed to two of the NFL’s premier playmakers.

“I always give off Dez Bryant going up to get the ball,” Mosley said. “Julio Jones, too.” 

Mosley believes his basketball background naturally translates to football. The footwork, body control and release moves developed on the basketball court help him create separation at the line of scrimmage.

“A jab step in basketball is the same thing as a jab on the football field,” he explained. 

Already Looking Ahead to Oxford

Although his recruitment is now over, Mosley already has his next trip to Oxford circled. When asked which game he plans to attend this fall, his answer came quickly.

The LSU game.

“I’ll definitely be there,” Mosley said. 

That weekend is expected to feature one of the biggest atmospheres of the season and will provide another opportunity for Mosley to reconnect with fellow commits and continue recruiting for the Rebels’ growing class.

Recruiting Momentum Continues

Mosley’s commitment is another significant win for Golding and his staff as Ole Miss continues pushing toward a top-10 recruiting class.

The Rebels have emphasized elite receiver play throughout the recruiting cycle, and Mosley believes he’s joining a program with a proven history of developing wideouts for the next level. That tradition played a major role in his decision, and now he’s ready to become part of it.

“I know this is the best place for me to continue to develop on and off the field and prepare for the next level,” Mosley said.
